4G LTE and 5G Core Networks

Horizon Mobile Networks develops practical 5G Core (5GC) and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) solutions for today’s telecom challenges: reliable, scalable systems that enhance connectivity and streamline operations.

To empower the future of communication by developing and delivering cutting-edge 4G and 5G mobile core network functions.

  1. 5GC5G5G Core NetworkA comprehensive, cloud-native core built on a true Service-Based Architecture.
  2. EPC4GEvolved Packet CoreA modern, cloud-native foundation for 4G LTE networks, applying the same stateless principles to existing infrastructure.
  3. NMSOperationsArgus Network ManagementAn end-to-end network management system whose functionality is available out of the box, with no data-science expertise required from the operator.

Two generations, one core model

Switch generation and watch the functions travel: MME becomes AMF and SMF, the two gateways converge into a stateless UPF, and the point-to-point control plane becomes a service bus.

5G Core Network

A comprehensive, cloud-native core built on a true Service-Based Architecture.

The Horizon 5G Core comprises a full suite of 3GPP-compliant network functions, each engineered to operate statelessly.

While 3GPP standards introduce statelessness for some functions, the Horizon core extends it across the entire core, including conventionally stateful components like the User Plane Function (UPF).

This full-stack stateless design, running on commodity x86 servers, enables dynamic resource allocation and seamless failover without session loss — removing the reliance on expensive, proprietary hardware.

Every function in the 5G core

Twelve 3GPP network functions, each engineered to run statelessly on commodity x86 hardware.

AMF

Control plane

Access and Mobility Management Function

Terminates the control plane of the access networks and manages UE access and mobility.

  • UE authentication and authorisation to the 5GC
  • Mobility management as UEs move between gNBs
  • Paging for incoming calls and messages

A defined path from EPC to dual-mode 5GC

Each 4G function has a counterpart in the 5G core. Some split apart, some merge, and all become services. Select a row to trace what changes; the evolution supports both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) 5GC.

Argus, the network management layer

An end-to-end network management system whose functionality is available out of the box, with no data-science expertise required from the operator.

Argus automatically selects features from raw data and processes them using a range of AI algorithms. The operator supplies domain expertise — such as the relationships between KPIs — and the platform handles the rest.

  1. 01

    Descriptive

What is happening in the network?

Analyses millions of data points from thousands of KPIs in real time, sets them in context to one another and visualises them spatiotemporally.

    • Unsupervised clustering
    • Classification analysis
  2. 02

    Diagnostic

    Why is it happening?

Detects complex and hidden network behaviour by correlating interdependencies between KPIs, making root-cause analysis possible even in highly complex networks.

    • Correlation analysis
    • Unsupervised time-series causality
    • Unsupervised anomaly detection
  3. 03

    Predictive

    What will happen next?

Forecasts the future state of the network by capturing seasonality and trends in resource-usage KPIs such as data traffic, active users, Layer-7 application usage and PRB utilisation.

    • Unsupervised time-series prediction with dynamic thresholding

Built for operators, virtual operators and fixed wireless
